Lyon To Málaga Sleeper Train Service Launches

Departing 10:30pm from Lyon Part Dieu, France.

8am - Arriving at Málaga Maria Zambrano, Spain

Boarding commences at 9:45pm, for those with dining car reservations, from 10pm.

This 1800 km journey will whisk you from the centre of France, to the south of Spain’s Andalucia.

The first service will commence from 27th December, 2024 Lyon, arriving on 28th December, 2024 in time for the 12 grapes in Plaza de la Constitucion, Málaga and the New Year’s eve celebrations.

With the 3 Kings festivities on 6th January, there will be a return service on 7th January. Departing 22:30 Málaga, arriving 08:00 Lyon.

Renowned for its Michelin Star restaurants, Lyon’s acclaimed chef Monsieur Marcel Mariscos has prepared a special evening menu featuring freshly caught fish - the Rhône trout. Guests can also opt for a fantastic breakfast menu served from 7am - with final departures from the train at 8.30am.

It will operate at 300 km/h and refurbished Duplex trains  painted  in a luxury purple livery. Inspired by OUIGOs reuse of double decker trains in Spain, and also OBB’s recent innovations with its Night Jet service, there will be a mix of sleeping accommodations from double rooms, family rooms, and private Japanese-style sleeping pods.

Connecting services

Geneva (3h), Frankfurt (6h) and Paris (2h) are within reach by train, from Lyon.

Málaga’s coast has its own Cercanias rail line. Day trips to Ronda, Granada & Cordoba are enjoyable.

We have been inspired by Elmer of European Sleeper, who achieved their dream of connecting 4 capital cities by night train, and the blog from Midnight Trains.

Exterior Design

The train boasts the distinctive double-decker design, known for its sleek profile and high-speed performance. Its exterior is wrapped in a vibrant livery that combines eye-catching stylish colours with subtle, elegant accents inspired by the LyMá’s branding. This mix highlights both the train's high-speed capabilities and its focus on night travel.

Interior Comfort and Amenities

Seating and Sleeping Compartments:

• The lower deck offers spacious seating arrangements, with options ranging from premium recliners to private cabins, blending efficiency with contemporary comfort. These areas feature adjustable lighting, power outlets, and privacy features, such as curtains and soundproofing.
• The upper deck houses luxurious sleeping compartments, inspired by the Nightjet's deluxe offerings. Each compartment includes comfortable beds, high-quality linens, and en suite facilities, such as a private bathroom with a shower.

Dining and Lounge Areas:

• A bistro-car on the lower deck serves a selection of gourmet meals, snacks, and beverages, catering to all tastes with a focus on local, sustainable ingredients.
• The train includes a lounge area where passengers can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, with large windows offering panoramic views of the passing scenery. This space draws inspiration from the Nightjet’s focus on passenger experience, providing a social area for travellers to unwind.

Sustainability and Technology:

• Emphasising sustainability, the train incorporates state-of-the-art green technologies, including energy-efficient propulsion and smart systems to minimise its environmental footprint.
• Advanced onboard technology ensures a seamless travel experience, with free high-speed WiFi, an entertainment system accessible via personal devices, and real-time travel information.

Services

• Recognizing the importance of comfort on overnight journeys, the train offers amenities such as a welcome kit with sleep masks, earplugs, and eco-friendly toiletries.
• Attentive, multilingual staff are available to assist passengers, ensuring a high level of service throughout the trip.
• From 7 AM, a gourmet breakfast service is available, featuring a variety of options to cater to different dietary preferences, emphasising a fresh start to the day.

This train combines the best of high-speed rail and overnight travel, offering passengers a comfortable, efficient, and environmentally friendly way to traverse long distances. It represents a leap forward in train travel, marrying speed with luxury in a way that appeals to both business and leisure travellers and furthers Europe in meeting its climate goals, given the 20x less CO2 pollution created by night trains.
